Lifestyle Changes for Battling Acne
Saturday, March 28, 2009
A person's lifestyle has a lot of impact on his or her health. And when we say health, that covers everything from mental to physical to emotional; from your head down to your toes. From your internal organs to the external and largest organ of the human body – the skin.
A few lifestyle changes will get you a long way towards keeping that skin acne-free, clear and healthy. Here are a few of them.
1. Get enough sleep. After you have stayed all night, take a look at the mirror and you will see how larger your pores are. This is because our skin gets dehydrated when we lack sleep. Although in itself lack of sleep is not a cause, it could make our skin dry and more prone to pimples. Not to mention the lackluster look that it gives us.
2. Relax. Stress, like lack of sleep, is not a cause but an aggravating factor. If stress will not cause your skin to breakout in pimples, it could still make your skin look dry, lifeless and dull. Stress causes our hormones to go overdrive and hormonal activity has always been tied up with the condition of our skin. Try closing your eyes for a few minutes and breathing steadily. Enroll in yoga classes. Get a stress ball. Whatever it is that can help make you relax will be good for your skin.
3. Avoid excessive alcohol and smoking. Easier said than done, particularly the smoking part. You might think that these two habits have nothing to do with your skin, but you might be wrong. Bottom line is, they are both health hazards and can contribute to making your skin unhealthy.
4. Exercise. Physical activities really do help. Try running for 30 minutes and you will notice the glow in your skin. You might have a busy schedule, but it should not be an excuse. Thirty minutes of exercise everyday will not take too much from your time and the returns will far outweigh the investment anyway.
5. Eat healthy. Fruits, vegetables and lots of water. An age-old advice which has never been proven to be wrong. Your busy schedule might have made you rely more on fast-food offerings, but grabbing an apple instead of a burger or a salad instead of fries will go a long way towards maintaining your health.
The way we live our daily lives has a lot of influence on the way we look. The better and healthier we spend our days and hours, the better we feel and the better we'll be able to battle that bothersome acne.
