Clear Skin for Teenagers

Saturday, March 28, 2009

Teenagers are the most prone to pimples. True. Teenagers are very conscious of how they look. True. Adolescence is the period when people are at their most insecure. Err, true enough (though I've met adults who are worse). Therefore, teenagers must get rid of pimples to look good and to feel secure. Right? If you say so.

For teenagers who are having the colossus problem called acne, here are some tips on how to get by.

1. Seek the help of professionals. You might want to listen to your friend's advice on what medication to use, but what's good for him might not be good for you. The best way to deal with the problem is to visit a dermatologist and have your skin assessed. The treatment that suits you best will be determined by the type of your skin and the level of your condition.

2. Don't pick on your spots. Tempting, I know. But rubbing, touching, squeezing and picking it will only make your acne worse and might even leave scars. Leave them alone no matter how tempted you are. This is a good period as any to practice resistance; it might even help you in more ways than one once you get older.

3. Practice proper hygiene. Wash your face at least twice a day. And if you have long hair, keep it clean. Or tie it back so that it does not touch your face. It could irritate your skin and your pimples.

4. Don't share towels and other personal effects. Towels are categorized as personal, try to keep yours clean and don't share it with others, even during sleepovers. If you use a powder compact, don't lend it even to your closest friends. The facial foam/sponge in cosmetics that touches your face should touch your face and yours alone.

5. Eat right and get enough sleep. Fries are good. But so are fruits. Chips are fine, but vegetables are better. They might not taste the same, but good eating habits promote health and good looks. Believe me, it's been scientifically proven.

If you are a teenager, naturally, you want to look good. If you want to look good, you must be ready to work on it. Or at least, forsake some of the habits that are not doing you any good.
