Making your Own Homemade Blackhead Remover

Saturday, March 28, 2009

There seem to be as many homemade blackhead remedies as there are leaves on a tree! Some are outrageous, some are simple but everyone swears they work.

The kitchen has always been a favorite place from which to get home remedies. One that has been around for generations is to rub goat’s milk on your blackheads. People also used to mix mayonnaise, chili powder and egg whites into a face mask to remove blackheads. Got any cottage cheese? Mix some with black pepper power to make a thick paste and let it dry on your blackheads. Wash off after five minutes and voila! No more blackheads.

Lemon juice, useful for so many things, is apparently good for getting rid of blackheads. By rubbing the affected areas with lemon juice three times a day, not only will your blackheads disappear but your pores will tighten. Let’s not forget lime juice; mix it with an equal amount of cinnamon and wear it to bed. When you wash it off in the morning, you should be greeted by a face clear of blackheads.

Grated raw potatoes rubbed on blackheads supposedly make them history. A honey mask is said to do the same job but be sure to rinse it off after fifteen minutes. A paste of radish seeds and water applied to blackheads and washed off after ten minutes is also supposed to work. A paste of baking soda and water rubbed on your face will leave it clean and clear.

Herbs and plants get into the act, too. Crushed Fenugreek leaves made into a paste with water and applied to your face for ten minutes is supposed to erase blackheads. Used every evening before bed, this concoction is supposed to keep your skin healthy and clear. A mix of one teaspoon coriander leaves, half a teaspoon of turmeric powder and enough water to make a paste is also a night-time mask that is rumored to reduce blackheads and make your complexion beautiful.

The simplest homemade remedy, however, is plain old Elmer’s Glue. Spread some over your blackheads, let dry then peel it off for a blackhead-free complexion. It’s probably the cheapest, too!
