Although making your own remedies can be a bit time-consuming, it saves money and avoiding harsh chemicals will keep your skin healthy and glowing. Homemade concoctions for clear skin also won’t upset the skin’s natural balance, stimulating or slowing down oil production. Your skin stays in its natural state because you’re using natural products, not chemical.
The most common and oldest remedy for clear skin is a past of oatmeal and water, left on for 15-20 minutes then rinsed off with warm water. This was popular for generations, especially with “society” women of the early twentieth century that believed a healthy complexion advertised their wealth. Then, as now, the oatmeal mask was very effective and the cost is negligible! Another home remedy that’s regaining popularity is the egg white mask; raw egg whites are spread upon the face and allowed to dry then peeled or washed off. Lemon juice is said to improve blood circulation as well as killing germs. A paste of grated apples and honey left on the skin for 15-20 minutes then washed off with warm water will leave the skin refreshed and glowing. Yogurt, the all-purpose health food, is wonderful for your skin when mixed with oatmeal.
Water that has had lettuce leaves soaked in it is supposed to make a very good wash to keep skin clear and clean. Lemon or lime juice added to water is also supposed to cut surface oil and leave your skin looking and feeling great.
Did you know that spices are also used to get healthy, clear skin? Basil, a prime ingredient of Italian cuisine, will help your skin stay beautiful when you use a teaspoon of it in strong tea and let it steep for about twenty minutes. Apply with a cotton ball at least once a day after the mixture has cooled, refrigerating unused portions. Cinnamon has many healing properties internally but you can also mix it with honey for a wonderful face mask. Garlic, that old cure-all, is reputed to be great for healthy skin. Simply peel eight cloves, mash well (a garlic press is probably best) and leave on your face for fifteen minutes, rinsing with warm water. You won’t smell good but you’ll look great!
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get clear, healthy skin. It’s often as close and inexpensive as your kitchen!
