Make Your Own Acne Cures

Saturday, March 28, 2009

One misconception about acne is that it's an affliction that will force you to spend too much on therapy and topical medicines. Because you have to apply treatment regularly, you have to shell out money regularly - not a very attractive prospect for people who are keeping a close watch on their budget. But acne cures are not limited to what drugstores, therapists and dermatologists can provide. The more resourceful of us can benefit from acne medication even without the fear of going over the budget.

Since the dawn of time, people have made acne cures out of natural ingredients. We have folk traditions and beliefs to thank for some of those cures making it to the modern world. Homemade acne cures are a real time and money-saver. Just because something doesn't come with a pharmaceutical label, doesn't mean it's not effective!

1. Spice concoctions - The use of ginger, garlic, cinammon and even sugar is quite common in creating spice-based remedies. These spices are ground and mixed in with a little water to create a paste that is applied directly onto the face.

2. Citrus fruit juices - Lemon and orange peels and juices are popular additives for home cures. Some advocate grinding the peels and using them as a paste, similar to the spice concoctions. Still others say it is best to apply the inside of the peels directly onto the skin. If you are making a paste out of these peelings, or making a juice out of the fruits themselves, you may add a touch of honey for extra smoothness.

3. Water therapy - Drinking a lot of water in a day is a certified home remedy for a lot of ailments. Acne may well be among them! It is not necessary to drink at least eight glasses, as the old belief goes, but drinking water whenever you are thirsty comes with its own therapeutic value.

Like any medication, however, homemade cures stand a chance of triggering an allergy. It is important to be aware beforehand if you are allergic to a substance you are about to apply on your skin. If you are not sure, try only a little of the substance on a small "test patch" you have specially selected. If an allergy develops, visit your emergency center immediately, and refrain from using the product in the future. Another kind of homemade remedy may be more suited to your skin type.
