Getting Rid of Pimple Scars

Saturday, March 28, 2009

Do your troubles end when your acne vanishes? Not in the least! Some impetuous youngsters may find that the easiest way to get rid of a zit is simply to pop it - without thinking about the scar it's going to leave. The ungainly pockmarks and scabbing only speaks volumes of how careless a person is. Pimple scars can be even crueler than the pimples themselves.

But in some cases, we can't prevent pimple scars. Say you accidentally scrape your cheek and cause some breakage on the skin - besides the regular wound, one is bound to have a few pockmarks in the bargain. Sometimes, too, pimples disappear on their own, even without interference from their poor host, or from any other outside factor - and yet they leave scars anyway.

As the body matures and the skin produces less sebum, pimple scars also fade over time. But young people who have had severe acne outbreaks may find that it takes more time for the scars to become less visible. Adults who also experience acne outbreaks late in their lives may also find themselves victims of long-term acne scarring.

There are a couple of ways to get rid of acne scars. Their effectiveness may depend on how sensitive your skin is, and how deep the scars run.

1. Oils and ointments - There are a few cosmetic chemicals out in the market that are reputed to be good for "smoothing out" the skin. Lavender oil is among them. Massaged onto one's face regularly, it stimulates the skin and allows for a smoother, healthier glow.

Ointments can be homemade, too! Some well-known homemade remedies are cocoa butter and pure lemon juice. Like commercial products, these are applied directly onto the skin.

2. Laser surgery - This is a somewhat extreme measure, not to be taken without the support and recommendation of a physician. Laser surgery may be a good option for people who have experienced heavy scarring.

3. Makeup - Makeup has always been a good way to cover up scars. A light amount of makeup may be enough to cover up the pimple scars and give the skin a smooth, fresh appearance.
