Nearly one hundred million dollars is spent each year on over the counter acne treatments! You can probably think of a lot of things you’d rather spend your money on but then how would you get rid of or keep your acne under control?
The answer may be as near as your kitchen or the produce section of your store! There are probably as many old wives’ tales and crackpot remedies as there are acne sufferers but here are a few tried and true home treatments that will save you hundreds of dollars and clear up your acne as well or better than those expensive medicines.
Vegetables and fruits have amazing healing qualities. Quartering a tomato or lemon and rubbing it on the affected areas before bed will quickly make short work of acne. Rinse in the morning with lukewarm water; you’ll see immediate improvement. Lime juice and boiled mild is an excellent facial wash for pimples and blackheads, as is lime juice and rose water left on the face for 20-30 minutes. A paste of orange peel and water left on for 15 minutes will banish acne, as will an equal time of with salt and vinegar paste. The juice of a raw papaya will nourish your skin while banishing pimples.
Witch hazel is the best astringent you can get for your complexion and it’s completely natural. Spices are also good at clearing up acne, particularly cinnamon. Mix cinnamon with honey for an effective overnight treatment or, for less sensitive skin, cinnamon with a teaspoon of lemon juice. And for centuries, people have used garlic for acne, rubbing it on the affected areas and leaving it on overnight.
There are many healthy, inexpensive ways to effectively treat acne without pillaging your finances. Avoiding harsh chemicals that damage your skin is an added bonus.
