You’ve probably heard of the legendary temptress, Cleopatra, relaxing in a bath of milk. Her skin was admired by all who saw it and little wonder; milk contains AHA (alph-hydroxy acid) that exfoliate the skin and leaves it with a healthy glow as well as allowing the body’s natural oils relieve the dryness of the top layer of skin. AHA is also found in lemon, citrus fruits, some berries and in apples.

Dermatologists know the benefits of AHA and offer acidic chemical peels but they can be harsh and even scar your skin as well as increase your risk of sunburn. Apple cider vinegar contains natural AHA and is one of the best things your can use to cleanse your facial skin. It’s extremely inexpensive, plentiful and safe.

Lemon or lime juice is also very good for your skin. It cuts through the dirt and oil to clean your pores and prevent the infections that lead to acne. As with apple cider vinegar, your skin will feel soft, smooth and healthy.

People have know for decades that kiwi fruit is good for you but did you know it’s good for your skin, too? In a blender mix a kiwi, 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt, one tablespoon each of orange water, honey and almond oil plus a teaspoon of finely ground almonds. You can also add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil. Puree the ingredients until they’re creamy and thick. This makes an excellent, nourishing facial cleanser. Store any leftover product in the refrigerator and it will keep for a few days.

Another common household staple that’s wonderful for your skin is oatmeal. It’s very absorbent, softens the skin and is hypoallergenic. The amino acids it contains are nearly perfectly balanced, the better to heal skin that’s dry or itchy. Mixing a half cup of oatmeal with just enough plain yogurt to make a paste will give you one of the healthiest facial cleansers you can make or buy. Avoid the eyes when cleansing, rinse off with warm water and your skin will reward you with a glowing, acne-free appearance if you use this wash regularly.

You don’t have to spend a fortune for a facial cleanser that your skin will love!
